Ginseng once grew wild throughout the vast temperate forests of North America. As an understory plant, Ginseng prefers cool forest shade. It is still found here and there in the wild state, though ginseng is now mostly cultivated. Wisconsin produces about 95 percent of the total U.S. cultivated ginseng crop.

  Cultivating American Ginseng

Cultivating ginseng is a costly and laborious task that requires knowledge and patience. Ginseng Roots need at least four years to develop, though Ginseng can live for centuries.

The eastern half of America, once more or less covered with ancient temperate forests, is the preferred home of wild and cultivated Ginseng.
